Rates and Insurance
This is currently a private-pay practice serving New York State. I am not currently participating as an in-network provider with insurance companies.
My goal is to make the process as clear as possible, so you know what to expect from the beginning.
Individual Therapy
$125 · 55-minute session
Individual therapy is available in person or virtually. The fee is the same either way.
Payment
Payment is due at the time of each session. Credit and debit cards are accepted, and payment can be made securely in the studio or online for virtual sessions.
If you are using an HSA or FSA card, you may also be able to use those funds for eligible therapy expenses, depending on your plan.
What if I have insurance?
While I am not currently in-network with insurance plans, your insurance may offer out-of-network benefits that can reimburse a portion of your therapy costs.
Some insurance plans cover services provided by Licensed Creative Arts Therapists, while others do not. Coverage varies from plan to plan, so I recommend contacting your insurance company before beginning therapy to understand your specific benefits.
If your plan offers out-of-network reimbursement, I can provide an itemized receipt (superbill) that you can submit to your insurance company for consideration.
Your insurance company determines whether your services are covered and how much they will reimburse. I cannot guarantee reimbursement.
Questions to ask your insurance company
When you call, you may want to ask:
Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?
Does my plan cover services provided by a Licensed Creative Arts Therapist (LCAT)?
Does my plan cover art therapy services?
Do I have an out-of-network deductible?
How much will my plan reimburse after my deductible is met?
Is there a limit on the number of sessions covered?
Do I need a referral or prior authorization?
What documentation do you need to submit an out-of-network claim?
I’m happy to provide the information you’ll need from me to submit a claim.
Can I use HSA, FSA, or HRA funds?
Depending on your plan, you may be able to use funds from a Health Savings Account (HSA), Flexible Spending Account (FSA), or Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) toward eligible therapy expenses.
The IRS recognizes certain therapy expenses as eligible medical expenses when they are for the treatment of a disease or diagnosed mental illness. Eligibility ultimately depends on your individual plan and circumstances.
If you are considering using HSA, FSA, or HRA funds, I recommend checking with your plan administrator before your first session to confirm that your expenses are eligible.
I can provide an itemized receipt for your records.
Why private pay?
Private pay gives us room to keep the focus where it belongs: on you and the work we’re doing together.
Rather than having our work shaped by an insurance company’s authorization requirements or predetermined number of sessions, we can allow therapy to be responsive to what you need.
For me, that matters because therapy isn’t always a straight line.
It’s a process.
Sometimes we talk. Sometimes we create. Sometimes we sit with something that doesn’t have an answer yet.
There’s more than one way to find your way in.
Have questions?
You don’t need to have everything figured out before reaching out.
If you have questions about rates, insurance reimbursement, virtual therapy, or getting started, I’m happy to help.
Please note: Insurance coverage and reimbursement are determined by your individual insurance plan. Jessica Whitwood, LCAT ATR-BC ® does not guarantee reimbursement for out-of-network services.
