Frequently Asked Questions
-
No. Art therapy is not about artistic ability. There is no expectation that you know how to draw, paint, or create anything “good”.
-
No! Art therapy can be used with people of all ages. I work with children, teens and adults. As an adult, getting out of our heads and making something tangible can be a powerful tool in our healing and self-care.
-
We’ll spend time getting to know each other, talking about what brings you to therapy, and discussing what you need support with. We’ll figure out together what might be helpful moving forward and set a goal for your sessions.
-
Yes. Virtual therapy is available for clients who prefer the comfort and flexibility of meeting from their own space.
Therapy doesn’t have to happen in the studio to be meaningful. Sometimes being in your own environment makes it easier to settle in, open up and be yourself.
And creative work can still be part of our sessions. Depending on what you are working on we can use materials you already have at home, simple prompts, writing, drawing, or other creative approaches that can work well through a screen.
The goal isn’t to recreate the studio in your living room. It’s to create a space where you can slow down, get out of your head, and do the work that feels right to you.
If you prefer the energy of being physically together in the studio, that’s available too. I will have a comfy chair ready for you!
There is more than one way to find your way in.

You always have a choice. Some sessions may involve art making, some may involve conversation, and many will include a combination of both.
-
I don’t assign predetermined meanings to your artwork. Instead, we’ll explore your own experience and what you notice about what you have created.
-
You don’t have to have everything figured out before you start. Sometimes knowing that something does not feel right is enough.
-
Your artwork and creative materials are handled according to applicable clinical, ethical and privacy requirements. We’ll talk about what happens to artwork during therapy. Sometimes we keep it in the studio to use from week to week. Other times you can take it home that day.
